What are Wagering Requirements and How They Work?

Online casino bonuses tend to have an annoying little things called ‘Wagering Requirements’ or ‘Playthrough Requirements’ attached to them and this is one way for the casinos to keep players in check and it prevents them from being able to take advantage of the online casino bonus system. Although most online casino bonuses can seem extremely generous and out-of-this-world, the strict wagering requirements can bring you straight back down to earth again. The wagering requirements for each bonus can always be found in the T’s and C’s section.

Before you can actually withdraw any cash that you have won from a casino bonus, you will need to complete the wagering requirements, which can seem to take forever. The worst part is that these wagering requirements have a tendency to expire within 30 days, so you also need to be quick if you want to fully benefit from the bonus.

Most of today’s online casino deposit bonuses require you to wager anywhere between 15 – 40x times the bonus amount (but more commonly it’s between 20 and 35x times the bonus amount). This basically means that if you are trying to claim your $/€/£200 welcome bonus and you must wager this amount 20 times, it means that you will need to wager a total of $/€/£4000 ($/€/£200 x 20) before you can even start to think about cashing out any of your winnings.

The other thing that you need to be aware of is that depending on which game you are playing on will determine how fast you can meet those wagering requirements. For example, games such as online scratchcards, online slot machines, keno and other instant win games generally count 100% towards meeting these requirements, but games such as Baccarat, Blackjack and perhaps certain different Online Poker varieties may only count as 10% towards your wagering requirements, so it would take you even longer to complete the requirements when playing on these games.

If you can’t easily find the wagering information in the Terms and Conditions of the bonus, you could even contact the customer support and get them to explain exactly how the bonus works. Also, you can always keep track of how much you have wagered by checking with the customer support. Alternatively, this information should be readily available somewhere in your casino account profile/settings area, which you can only find when you are logged in to your account.
